Baby Car Seat Information that Parents Must Know

What is a baby car seat? It is a car seat that you can install at the back of the car that is specifically made for a baby. In fact, it is even mandatory in some countries and states and without it, you couldn’t even drive your baby home as the hospital won’t let you.

That being said, there is still a lot of information that parents do not know about car seats which is why in this article, I will talk about them in further detail so that you will understand more about them.

Infant Car Seat

An infant car seat is a seat specially designed for babies. There are two types of infant car seats that you can find on the market and that is the convertible and the booster.

The convertible car seats are those that can transform from rear-facing to front-facing depending on the size of your baby. Ideally, you want to use the rear-facing configuration for as long as possible up to a certain degree. You will find the weight limit on the car seat’s manual. Once that limit is reached, you will then change its orientation to forward-facing and it will be good for children up to 65 pounds.

Booster car seats are for children nagged 4 years up until they reach a certain weight threshold. The reason why it is called a booster is that it allows your child to sit higher up. It is done so that the seatbelt of your car will perfectly fit your child to help them be held securely in their place.

What Are the Things to Look for in an Infant Car Seat?

Before anything else, let me reassure you that all of the car seats that you can find on the market are made with the safety standards in mind. So, even if you buy an inexpensive product, it doesn’t mean it is inferior.

That being said, there are some features that you will want to have in an infant car seat. Here are just some of the most important ones:
Ease of Installation- Refer to your car’s manual if you have the LATCH system on. If the said system is available, then you can easily install a car seat. Most modern cars have them.

Fits Your Vehicle-

Obviously, you want to buy a car seat that actually fits your car. The good thing is that most shops that sell them allow you to fit them in your car first before you purchase them.

Necessary Safety Indicators-

These indicators will help notify you if they are properly installed. Although some consider it as an optional thing; I actually deem it as important as it helps people who do not have knowledge about car seats know if they have installed them correctly.

Material-

You will want to buy a car seat that has durable materials so that your baby can use it for a very long time.
Safety Features- Buy a car seat that has some extra padding for added comfort and shock absorption protection for those immediate brakes.
